1. If your cat is Orange, it's a Tabby. All orange cats are tabbies (though not all tabbies are orange). Many people mistakenly believe that "tabby" is a specific breed when in fact, it is a reference to the unique coat markings all tabby cats have. The word "tabby" originates from a striped silk made in Iraq.

2. Orange Cats Have Something in Common with Your Red-Headed Friends.
A specific pigment called pheomelanin causes the orange coat color. This is the same pigment that causes red hair in humans.

3. Gingers Across the Spectrum
The gene for the orange coat color is dominant over all other coat colors except white. This might be why many bicolor orange tabbies exhibit white as their second color.

4. Most Ginger Cats Are Male About 80 percent of orange cats are male. That’s because the ginger gene responsible for the coat color lives on the X chromosome. Males need just one copy to turn orange, while female cats need two—making female ginger cats much rarer. This is why many ginger cats you meet will be male ginger cats.

5. Garfield
(the lasagna-loving cat) is one of the most famous orange tabby cats. He made his debut in American culture in 1978 and holds the Guinness Book of World Records title for the most syndicated comic strip.
